1. The Construction of the Forbidden City

 

During its construction, approximately 100,000 skilled artisans and over one million laborers were mobilized from across the empire. However, less than nine months after completion, a fire destroyed the three main halls of the Outer Court, including the Hall of Supreme Harmony and the emperor’s throne.
