Hongde Hall (Hall of Vast Virtue)

Situated to the west of the Palace Of Heavenly Purity, it was a venue where the emperor convened with high-ranking officials for discussions during the Ming Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, it functioned as a place for the emperor to address state affairs and engage in scholarly pursuits. In the 14th year of Emperor Shunzhi's reign (1657), he initiated daily lectures here to honor Confucius.

Inside, a plaque inscribed with "Serve with Utmost Sincerity" hangs above the emperor's throne. Behind the main hall are three rooms, one bearing a plaque reading "Hall of Great Antiquity," and the eastern rear room displaying a plaque inscribed with "Embrace Eternal Virtue," both authored by Emperor Qianlong.
