
1924 – Puyi’s Expulsion from the Forbidden City
In 1924, warlord Feng Yuxiang launched a coup and seized control of Beijing. He annulled the previous agreement with the Qing imperial family and expelled Puyi from the Forbidden City.
9. On October 10, 1925, the Palace Museum was officially established within the Forbidden City.
Soon after, the Japanese invasion of China posed a severe threat to the national treasures housed in the Forbidden City.
As Japanese forces advanced rapidly, emergency efforts were undertaken to evacuate the artifacts to prevent them from being destroyed by bombings or seized by enemy forces. Ultimately, the entire collection was successfully transported to Sichuan, where it was preserved until the end of the war.
