The Yikun Palace (The Palace of Earthly Honor)

The Yikun Palace is one of the six western palaces within the Forbidden City's inner court. The name "Yikun" signifies "Assisting Earthly Tranquility," symbolizing support for the Empress. Alongside the Chengqian Palace in the eastern section, Yikun Palace is renowned for its grandeur and opulence, serving as the residence for favored consorts. Emperor Puyi, during his time residing in Yikun Palace, had a swing installed in the main hall; although the swing has since been removed, its frame remains.

Notable occupants of Yikun Palace include Consort Yuan of the Ming Chongzhen Emperor, Empress Nara of the Qianlong Emperor, and Empress Dowager Cixi.

In the central hall of the Yikun Palace, the primary seat for the presiding figure is accompanied by a screen, incense burner, and palace fans. Above this seat hangs a horizontal plaque inscribed with the phrase "Yǒu Róng Dé Dà" (有容德大), meaning "Great Virtue Embraces All," personally penned by Empress Dowager Cixi.
