The Mỹ Lai Massacre (also known as Mỹ Sơn Massacre)
The Mỹ Lai massacre can be said to be a typical example of the US's crimes. After the Tet Offensive in early 1968, US intelligence claimed that Battalion 48 of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam was retreating to hide in Mỹ Lai village. Therefore, on March 16, 1968, US Army units massacred the people here, most of whom were women and children. No men of fighting age were found here. Not only did they kill innocent civilians, but before they died, they also raped, harassed, tortured, beat, and even cut off parts of their bodies. A total of 504 people were killed in this massacre.
Only 1 U.S personnel was sentenced to life imprisonment. However, he was later pardoned by President Richard Nixon after serving for more than 3 years.
