Exterior architecture of the Post Office

Overall, the Post Office building is designed in a T-shape, clad in a light yellow coat, decorated with many reliefs, patterns on the roof and columns. These motifs are meticulously and elaborately decorated.

In the middle of the post office is a large clock, below which is the inscription 1886-1891, which is the time the building was built. Surrounding are exquisitely white bas-reliefs, in the middle is the god Hermes wearing a laurel wreath, Hermes is the messenger god in Greek mythology.

To bring light to the entire main building, the outside is built with a system of symmetrical arched green windows on both sides. Between the windows are reliefs of Greek gods such as Nike, the goddess of victory and speed, Poseidon (Neptune), the god of horses and the sea god.

With the pillars between the second floor and the ground floor of the building, the relief panels embrace a rectangular stone slab. Each slab bears the name of a scientist who has made significant contributions to human civilization in the field of electricity and telecommunications. Among the names engraved on the rectangles are US President Benjamin Franklin, Italian inventor Alessandro Volta, British physicist Michael Faraday, French mathematician Galvani, and many other famous names.

In front of the two sides of the Post Office are two commemorative monuments, one is the liaison soldier on the right side of the post office and the other is a monument to the postal industry on the left side of the post office.

On the roof are decorative reliefs of the serpent god Naga inspired by Khmer temple art, symbolizing strength and good luck. The image of the serpent god Naga often appears in

many temples and pagodas in Vietnam. Beside it is the image of the lotus flower, a flower in Buddhism and also considered the national flower of Vietnam.
